Bollywood Dance

Bollywood is just another name to Indian Film Industry. The 'B' in Bollywood stands for Bombay (now Mumbai) and 'Ollywood' from Hollywood. Bollywood is the world's largest film industry. Songs and dances are the main characteristics of Bollywood movies.

Earlier, Bollywood dance was based mainly on Indian Classical dances such as Kathak, Bharatanatyam, and folk dances from various parts of India. Today, Bollywood dance is a blend of numerous dance styles such as Indian Classical dances, folk dances, "Western dances" such as Modern Jazz, contemporary and even belly dancing with a Bollywood flavor. Bollywood dance has and will continue to evolve as a dance style.

Bollywood dance is getting popular all across the globe now. Earlier it was popular only in the areas where Bollywood movies were enjoyed the most. But thanks to the ever expanding Indian diaspora and International success of films such as "Slumdog Millionaire", Bollywood dance is getting its popularity among non-Indians as well. Extravagant costumes, lavish sets, breathtaking scenery, and catchy songs are some of the major features of Bollywood dance and movies.
